Anya Ayoung Chee an inspiration!

Now I’ve decided to blog about Anya Ayoung Chee’s success in the hit “reality” show Project Runway 2011 for reasons which will become clear in the later lines of this blog. However, I must tell my readers that it was a close call between Anya’s victory , Kelly Anne Baptise World Championship Games, 100M Bronze Medalist, or the issue of “Big Payouts ” to eleven (11) abused prisoners totalling approximately $1,808,548.00 TTD between 2008 to 2011 in Trinidad and Trinidad and Tobago.

Anya’s Sex Scandal

Knowledge of Anya’s existence became vaguely known to me when she competed for the title of Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2008, from which she graduated to a blip on my radar when she won said title. I then completely forgot about her until the sex clip/tape surfaced in 2009 there about, Now I was not really moved it when I saw it although I must admit her prowess but in my opinion such acts were normal in the regular world much less the world of Fashion/Celebrity/Models, in the video she was having intimate relations with a photographer that was her boyfriend at the time or whom she liked or whatever nancy story was floating around, the video got leaked when the dude went to get his laptop fixed, allegedly. Now Anya to me is an “international” beauty which to me means she is attractive but has no sex appeal in my eyes so watching her sex tape was not a priority for me by any means. I was even undecided if the act was deliberate or not, but either way my concerns quickly vanished as I surmised that at the end of the day she would still get to model and see places that I wish I could and probably make more money than I if she is smart or has a good accountant so I moved on with my life.

Project Runway, Season 9, 2011 Winner

Boom! out of the blue I heard that the ex-Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago sex tape star applied to be on Project Runway, and that Heidi Klum a judge/host of the show favoured her, however Anya had no experience sewing and she had to have a crash course in the technique! I was slightly intrigued when she was accepted and she even survived the first cut I even mentioned her in a earlier post It was at this point where I actively started to listen for her because I felt like she had something to show me and the fact that she named her winning collection “Tobago Love” won me over as well. She eventually won and is now the reigning Project Runway Champion and is $100,000.00 USD (approx $600,000.00 TTD) richer! The tradeoff is that all the designs created on the show become the property of the network, so she will now have to create new stuff if she wants any revenue as a designer….well the stakes were quite high but given the exposure she has gained with the show and that she actually came from such bad publicity and didn’t allow it to crush her probably means that she is poised to be one top the world top designers. This should speak to all of us, don’t limit yourself ever and its not your job to tell your self no unless the action is not going to make you a better person.

The Teacher

My ultimate interest lay in Anya’s teacher, Ms. Delia Alleyne who was a Final Year Student at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) studying Fashion Design especially since she is from Tobago, Mason Hall (CORRECTION: She is from L’Anse Fourmi) to be exact and she is an ex John Donaldson Student in 2000 around the same time I attended if I’m not mistaken.

In Conclusion

I love that Anya and Delia made things happen with opportunity, skill and mental tenacity because as I struggle with my coursework for this semester which is not hard just BORING!!! I have to dig deep!!! after all in the next two years I’ll be in the news :P .

I am proud of my daughter’s achievements. She is humble, polite, generous and intelligent. Thank you for the positive comments. She is not from Mason Hall though. She is of the Bobb family which hails from L’Anse Fourmi.
